내쉬빌 컨트리와 웨스턴 사운드를 대중화시켰던 뮤지션입니다.

 

1936년 6월 22일 켄사스주 브론스빌에서 태어난 그는 옥스포드대학에서 문예창작을 공부하며 작곡을 부업으로

 시작한 것이 계기가 되어 인생항로의 큰 변화를 갖게됩니다.
1970년초에 컨트리 3대 히트곡 "For the good times" 를 비롯 "Sunday morning comin' down"과

" Help me make it through the night" 을 작곡하여 그의 이름을 널리 알리게 됩니다.

1971년 Sammi Smith에 의해 발표되어 1971년 팝챠트 8위, 컨츄리챠트 1위에 등극한 이곡은 그후

Elvis Presley를 비롯 수백명의 가수들에 의해 취입되고 불려져 많은 가수들이 부른 곡 중 한곡이라 할 수 있다.
