4인조 그룹인 배드 핑거(Bad Finger)는비틀즈와
아주 유사한 사운드를 지닌 그룹으로 ...
실제로 폴 메카트니와 조지 헤리슨등 비틀즈의 도움을 받으며
그들의 영향 속에서 만들어진...

 

 

비틀즈가 전성기를 구가하던 1960년대후반 그룹 구성이나 음악 스타일이 비슷한

 아이비스(The Iveys)라는 밴드가 비틀즈의 지원을 받으며

비틀즈가 설립한 애플(Apple)레코드를 통하여 데뷔하게 됩니다.

피트 햄(Pete Ham, 보컬, 피아노), The Iveys 는 마이크 기빈스(Mike Gibbons, 드럼),

톰 에반스(Tom Evans, 베이스, 기타), 론 그리피스(Ron Griffiths, 베이스)로
구성되어  1964년 결성 된 그룹입니다.

 

이들은 애플 레코드와 계약하며 그룹 이름을 배드핑거로 바꾸고 1969년말 폴 맥카트니와 함께

데뷔 음반이자 링고 스타가 출연한 영화의 사운드 트랙 음반인 Magic Christian Music 을 제작하여

1970년에 발표하였습니다. 이 앨범에는 폴 매카트니가 작곡하여 비틀스의 체취가 짙게 묻어나는

 Come and Get It 과 한국에서 배드핑거를 대표하는 곡으로
자리잡은 Carry on Till Tomorrow 같은 곡들이 수록되어 있습니다.

데뷔 음반 발표후 론 그리피스가 그룹을 탈퇴하게 되고 리버풀 출신의 기타리스트 Joey Malland 가

가입하여 빈자리 를 채우게 됩니다.

1970년 말 배드핑거의 두번째 음반 No Dice 가 발표되었는데, 

이 음반에는 해리 닐슨(Harry Nilsson)과 에어 서플라이(Air Supply), 머라이어 캐리(Mariah Carey)가

 리메이크했던 명곡 Without You 가 수록 되어 있습니다.

이들은 비틀즈와 비슷하단 이유로 한 공연에서 사정상 연주할 수 없게 된 비틀즈 대타로

연주를 하게 되었는데 이때 관중의 반응은 싸늘했고 "우리들이 원하는것은 비틀즈다~!!!"라며

 이들에게 커다란 상처를 입혔고 비틀즈의 해체와 함께 애플레코드에서도

나오게 됩니다..그 후 피터 햄이 1975년 4월 23일 자살로 이 그룹은

 비운의 그룹으로 역사에서 사라지게 됩니다.

 거울속에 비치는 자신을 관조하며 부르는듯한 이 곡은

 제가 참 좋아하는 노래로 가사의 표면적인 뜻과는 사뭇 다르게

진한 슬픔이 느껴지는 것은...

저의 어슬픈 감정이입 때문이 아닐까 생각합니다.
