The Spirit’s Song         이 詩는 Anne Hunter가 London을                      떠나는 Haydn에게 준 이별 선물이다.                   Hunter와 Haydn 사이가 혹시 친구 이상의 관계 아니었을까 의심하게 하는 내용이다.              O Tuneful Voice (오 멋진 음성) O Tuneful voice, I still deplore Thy accents, which I hear no more, Still vibrate on my heart! In Echo’s cave I long to dwell, And still to hear that sad farewell, When we were forced to part! 오 멋진 음성, 아직 나의 가슴에 울린다 이젠 들리지 않는 그대의 소리에 나는 지금도 슬퍼한다! 그리고 메아리가 사는 그곳에서 우리가 헤어져야만 했던 때의 서글픈 작별인사를 듣고 싶다! Bright eyes! O that the task were mine, To guard the liquid fires, that shine, And round your orbits play, To watch them with a vestal’s care! Hunter의 번역) Recollection A Pastoral Song Despair Pleasing Pains Fidelity Sailor's song Joseph Haydn의 영어 text에 쓴 노래 (english song) 는 총 14곡으로 알려진다: 그의 두차례에 걸친 London 체류 (1791-92 그리고 1994-95년) 중 작곡된 Books of Canzonetta (Book 1, Book 2)에 수록된 12곡과 여기 소개하는 2곡,   The Spirit’s Song과  O Tuneful Voice (Hob. XXVIa:41-42) 이다. Books of Canzonetta, Book  1 (Hob.XXVIa:25-30), 1794년 출판.  Anne Hunter 에게 헌정. Books of Canzonetta, Book 2 (Hob.XVIa:31-36) 1795년 출판.  Charlotte Bertie 에게 헌정. 코에 생긴 종기로 찾은 의사 John Hunter와의 인연으로 그는 John Hunter의 아내   Anne Hunter를 알게 되고 그들의 저택에서 열리는 음악회에 자주 초대된다. 시인이자 음악에 깊은 관심을 가진 Anne Hunter, Haydn을 위해 직접 시를 쓰거나 text를 선택함으로  Haydn의 작품에 매우 큰 역활을 한다. 이 2곡을 포함, 14곡의 Haydn의 english song에서  최소 9곡이 그녀의 text에 의한 것으로 알려진다. The Spirit’s Song 영혼의 노래는 사후의 세계에 대한 Anne Hunter의 로맨틱한 환상을 적은 詩이다.       The Spirit’s Song 영혼의 노래 Hark! what I tell to Thee: No sorrow o’er the tomb!
