마이클 잭슨(Michael Jackson, 1958년 8월 29일 ~ 2009년 6월 25일)은 미국의 싱어송라이터, 배우이다.

 흔히 King of Pop(팝의 황제) 또는 이름의 앞글자인 MJ로도 불리며, 기네스 세계 기록은 역사상 가장 성공한

연예인으로 선정했다. 잭슨은 음악, 춤, 패션에 공헌을 했고, 대대적으로 관심을 받은 사생활, 또한 40년이 넘도록

대중문화의 대표적 인물이었다.

 

잭슨은 잭슨 패밀리의 여덟 번째 아이로 태어나 1964년 잭슨 파이브를 통해 가수로 데뷔했고, 1971년에는 솔로 경력을

 시작했다.

 

1980년대 초부터 대중음악계의 대표적 인물이 되었다.

"Beat It", "Billie Jean", "Thriller" 등을 포함한 그의 히트곡의 뮤직비디오는 인종차별의 벽을 없애는데 일조했고,

매체에서 예술형식과 앨범 홍보 형식을 완전히 바꿔놓았다.

 

그의 비디오 인기는 당시 비교적 새로운 텔레비전 채널이였던 MTV가 지금의 명성을 얻게하는데 도와줬다.

1990년대에는 "Black or White", "Scream"과 같은 뮤직비디오를 계속해서 만들면서 매체들을 끊임없이 혁신시켰다. 뿐만 아니라 솔로 아티스트들의 투어 발판을 마련했다.

 

무대와 비디오 퍼포먼스를 통해 로봇춤, 문워크와 같은 많은 복잡한 댄스기법을 대중화 시켰다.

잭슨의 독특한 사운드와 스타일은 수 많은 힙합, 포스트 디스코, 컨템포러리 알앤비, 팝, 록 음악가들에게 영향을 끼쳤다.

1982년 발매된 Thriller는 역사상 가장 많이 팔린 앨범이다.

 

이 외에 Off the Wall(1979), Bad(1987),Dangerous(1991), HIStory(1995)는 모두 세계에서 가장 많이 팔린 앨범 중 상위권에 들었다.

 

마이클 잭슨은 로큰롤 명예의 전당에 두 번 헌액된 몇 안되는 아티스트 중 한 명이다. 또한 팝과 록 음악을 겸하는 댄서로는 처음으로 댄스 명예의 전당에 올랐다. 잭슨은 수 많은 업적을 남겼는데, 기네스 세계 기록의 많은 기록들을 포함해

 13번의 그래미 상 수상과 그래미 레전드상, 그래미 공로상, "세기의 음악가"와 "1980년대 아티스트"를 포함한 26번의

 아메리칸 뮤직 어워드 수상은 그 어떤 아티스트보다 많은 기록이다.

 

또한 솔로 경력동안 빌보드 핫 100 1위에 13장이나 올리며 그 어떤 남자 가수보다도 많은 1위를 했다.

빌보드 핫 100 50년간 차트에서는 8위에 올랐다.

^[1] 잭슨은 세계적으로 7억 5,000만 장의 음반 판매고를 올렸다. 잭슨은 이러한 많은 상들을 받아 대중음악계 역사상 가장 많은 수상을 한 음악가이다.

 

그는 2009년 7월부터 This Is It이라는 콘서트를 진행 할 예정이였지만,^[2] 2009년 6월 25일 의문의 심장마비로

 사망했다.

'93년 빌보드 싱글 차트 27위까지 기록했던 노래.

 

평화의 메시지를 담은 노래로 마이클 잭슨이 발표한 노래 중

우리나라에서 꾸준히 애청되고 있는 곡임.

 

 

마이클 잭슨은 이 노래의 제목을 딴 'Heal The World Foundation'란 어린이 재단을 만들어
