Got himself a guitar, used to play every night,

영국에서 결성된 Rock 밴드 Bad Company.

Blues feel 이 충만한 Hard Rock 으로 무장한 이들의 탄생에는 Led Zeppelin 의 공이 컸습니다.

레드 제플린이 직접 설립한 Swan Song 레이블의 제1호 밴드이기 때문이죠.

전설의 그룹 Free 에서 활동하던보컬리스트 Paul Rogers가 리더입니다.

Bad Company 이후에는 지미 페이지와 함께밴드 Firm 을 결성해 활동합니다.

최근에는 Queen + Paul Rogers 라는 타이틀을 걸고프레디 머큐리의 빈자리를 메워퀸의 멤버들과 투어를 하고 있지요.

음악에 점수를 매길 수는 없겠지만천하의 폴 로저스라도프레디 머큐리를 재현하기엔 2% 부족하다는 생각입니다.

오리지날을 능가하는 커버는 없는 법이니까요.

역시 폴 로저스는 배드 컴퍼니 시절의그 황금같은 레퍼토리를 포효하듯 내뱉는 순간이제일 어울리는 자리인 것 같다는

 개인적 의견입니다.

 

 

 

4인조 영국 밴드 Bad Company 는 이미 유명한 뮤지션들이 뭉쳐 만든 이른바 슈퍼밴드였다.
브리티시 블루스 하드록 밴드 Free 에서 한솥밥을 먹던
폴 로저스 (Paul Rodgers/보컬) 와 사이먼 커크 (Simon Kirke/드럼),
아트록그룹 킹 크림슨 (King Crimson) 에서 베이스를 연주한 보즈 버렐 (Boz Burrell),
그리고 70년대 초반 초기 펑크와 하드록을 구사했던
모트 더 후플 (Mott The Hoople) 의 기타리스트 믹 랠프스 (Mick Ralphs)
등이 모여 1973 년에 결성된다.

 

스트레이트한 기타 연주의 'Can't get enough' 와 'Movin' on', 'Rock steady',
블루지한 'Ready for love' 와 'The way I choose',
그리고 자신들의 주제가 'Bad Company' 등
하드록의 고전으로 칭송 받는 곡들이 수록된 이들의 데뷔 앨범 는
락음악 역사에서 가장 인상적인 처녀작 중 하나로 꼽힌다.

 

 

 

밴드 결성 11년 만인 1984년 폴 로저스는 Bad Company 를 탈퇴해
지미 페이지와 함께 또 다른 슈퍼 밴드 펌을 결성한다.
한편 폴 로저스가 빠진 Bad Company 는 과거의 명성을 회복하기에 역부족 이었다.
보컬이 그 밴드에서 얼마나 절대적 이었는가를 반증하는 부분이다.

 

 

 

그 이후 1998 년 오리지널 멤버 Paul, Simon, Boz, Mick 등 4명의 라인업이 다시 모여
현재까지 투어 위주의 활동을 펼치면서 노익장을 과시하고 있다.
