1984년 아카데미 음악상 수상 작품

1984년 미국 팝 가수 Prince는 Purple Rain 이란 영화에 출연해 직접 영화 주제곡들을 부르며,

그의 밴드 The Revolution과 함께 부른 그 주제곡들은 사운드트랙 앨범에 수록되어 많은 사랑을 받게된다.

 

지금 듣고 계신 Purple Rain은 When Doves Cry 등과 함께 그 앨범에 수록됐던 주제곡들 가운데 하나.
Prince 의 노래가 거의 다 그렇듯, 이 곡들 역시 프린스가 직접 만든 곡들이다.

 

하늘로 올라가기 위해 거치는 7개의 단계(빨주노초파남보)가 있다고 한다.
보라색 단계는 신의 영역으로 인간이 들어갈 수 없지만 남색 단계와 보라색 단계의 경계에는

Purple Rain 이 내리는 데 이 비를 맞으면 인간세상의 모든 근심과 고통이 사라진다고 한다.

Purple Rain 앨범에서 프린스는 자신의 페르소나를 인간세상을 구원하는 구세주로

등장시켜 자신의 등장과 죽음 그리고 고통을 받는 인간들을

Purple Rain으로 인도하는 메시아적 이야기를 펼치고 있다.
