Zino Francescatti et Michael Rabin

 

그는 1902년 프랑스의 마르세이유(Marseilles)에서 태어났다.
그는 유일하게 선정된 프랑스 태생의 바이올리니스트다.
그는 파가니니 작품에 능했고 그래서 '파가니니 스페셜리스트'로 불렸다.

한편 그의 아버지는 이탈리아인이었으므로 이탈리아계 바이올리니스트를 대표해 선정되었다고도 할 수 있다.

 그는 파가니니(N.Paganini 1782-1840)의 유일한 제자로 알려져 있는 시보리(C.Sivori 1815-1894)에게

배웠으므로 현대에 이어져내려온 거의 유일한 ‘파가니니파’ 연주가다.

 

이러한 경력이 그를 파가니니의 전문 연주가, 또는 철저한 기교파 바이올리니스트로 인식케 한 면도 없지 않다.

 그의 파가니니 연주는 물론 뛰어난 것이지만 그렇다고 그를 설명할 수 있는 단어가 ‘파가니니’나 ‘초절적 기교’에 한정된다는것은 불합리하다.

부모의 영향으로 3세 때부터 바이올린을 잡았고, 5세 때부터 공개연주를 가졌던 그는 13세 때인 1918년,

마르세이유에서 정식으로 데뷔했다.
1924년 파리로 가 라벨을 만난 것은 상당히 중요한 인연이 되었다.

 

 프란체스카티는 이 인연으로 라벨과 함께 연주여행을 다닐 수 있는기회도 가졌다.
별로 많지 않은 라벨 스페셜리스트 중에는 따라서 프란체스카티의이름이 꼭 들어간다.

 

 

 

 

 

프란체스카티는 프랑스에서 태어나 프랑스에서 바이올린을 배웠지만, 연주 활동의 전성기는 미국에서 보낸 연주가였다.

1939년, 뉴욕 필과 역시 파가니니 바이올린 협주곡 1번을 연주해 미국 데뷔를 기록했다.
이 연주회로 미국에서 활동할 수 있는 발판을 마련한 프란체스카티는 전운이 감도는  미국에서 활동하기 시작했다.

전쟁이 끝난 후는 피아니스트 로베르트 카자드쉬(Robert Casadesus,1899-1972)를 만났다.

이 둘의 앙상블은 타의 추종을 불허하는 절묘한 것으로 정평이 나기도 했다.

 음반으로는 발터 지휘의 모차르트 바이올린 협주곡 3번, 번(소니), 카자드쉬와 함께한 베토벤 소나타 5번, 9번 (소니) 등이 유명하다.

 

그리고 음악 매니아로 부터 최고의 인기음반이었던 비탈리 '샤콘느', 파가니니의 'I Palpiti', 타르타니의 <바이올린협\

주곡>은 아직도심금을 울려준다.

지노 프란체스카티... 그의 음반은 '콜럼비아레코드사' (CBS)에서 출반하였으며, 악기는 1727년산 스트라디바리우스를 애용하였다.

1991년 프랑스의 라 시오타(La Ciotat)에서 89세에 세상을 떠났다..

René-Charles "Zino" Francescatti
(August 9, 1902 - September 17, 1991) was a French virtuoso violinist.
Zino Francescatti was born in Marseilles, to a musical family.
Both parents were violinists. His father, who also played the cello, had studied with Camillo Sivori. Zino studied violin from age three and was quickly recognized as a child prodigy. He began performing at the age of five and made his debut at age 10, playing Beethoven's Violin Concerto.

In 1927 he went to Paris to teach at the École Normale de Musique; he also conducted the Concerts Poulets. He made his first world tour in 1931 and his American debut with John Barbirolli and the New York Philharmonic in 1939, playing Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 1. His recording of the concerto is still regarded as one of the best. At the end of World War II in 1945, he pursued an outstanding international career until his retirement in 1976.

A violinist of outstanding technical ability, Francescatti played all of the great concerti. His performances of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto No. 3, Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1, and others, are highly regarded.
Francescatti made many renowned recordings, including the Beethoven sonatas for violin and piano with Robert Casadesus.
He performed on the celebrated "Hart" Stradivarius of 1727.
Upon his retirement, he sold the instrument and established
the Zino Francescatti Foundation, to assist young violinists, in La Ciotat. In 1987 an international violin competition was organized in his honor in Aix-en-Provence.

He died in La Ciotat, Bouches-du-Rhône, France, aged 89.
