러시아 음악사의 길을 바꾸어 놓은 주인공 글린카는 1893년 봄 창백한 여인 에카테리나 
케른을 만나 사랑에 빠지면서 결혼 생활이 파국에 접하게 된다. 

케른의 창백하고 고통스런 모습에 글린카는 매혹되었는데, 글린카가 존경하던 푸슈킨이 
에카테리나의 어머니에게 바친, 널리 알려진 시 '난 멋진 순간을 기억합니다' 에 음악을 
붙여 아름답고 투명한 가곡을 만들어냈다.

And my heart is beating in ecstasy,
And once more for it is born anew
