'Laura Branigan'은 1957년 7월 3일 뉴욕에서 태어났다. 
고교 시절 학교 행사에서 여주인공을 맡으며 뮤지컬에 관심을 갖기 시작했고,
뉴욕 연극 예술 아카데미에 2년간 다니기도 했으며
Leonard Cohen의 유럽 순회 공연시 백 보컬 리스트로 참여하기도 하였다.

Laura Branigan은 처음으로 대중의 인기를 끈 것은
싱글앨범 [Gloria]로 부터이다. 

'Gloria'로 Laura Branigan은
빌보드 싱글 차트에서 2위까지 가파른 상승을 하였으며
그해 그래미 최고여자 보컬상을 수상하게 된다.

'Gloria' 는 이탈리아의 팝 가수 Umberto Tozzi가
1979년에 발표하여 전 유럽에서 상당한 인기를 누렸던 곡으로
Laura Branigan이 영어로 개사해서 부른 곡이었다.

원곡은 당시 유럽에서의 히트에도 불구하고 유독 영국에서는 히트를 하지못했고,
미국에서는 아예 알려지지도 안했었다.

Laura Branigan의 두번째 앨범의 [Solitaire]는 5월 탑10에 진입하였으며
[How Am I Supposed To Live Without You]는 8월 탑 40안에 진입하게 되며

계속하여 'Self Control', 'The Power Of Love' 같은 곡으로 사랑을 받았으나
2004년 8월 뇌동맥류로 사망하였다.
