릴리안 부테는 1949년 재즈의 본고장 뉴 올리언스에서 출생, 주로 유럽에서 활동을 했다.

 프랑스가 자랑하는 여가수의 한명으로 올라있기도 한 그녀는 재즈의 3대 디바의 뒤를 이을 수 있을 만한

 재즈의 성향과 초기 재즈 보컬이 불렀음직한 특유의 블루스적인 느낌을 전하는 매력적인 보이스를 가지고 있다.

뉴올리언즈 재즈의 향기를 맘껏 느낄 수 있는 재즈 음반 "Music Is My Life"는 뉴올리언즈 재즈의 모습을 간직하고 있는 몇 안 되는 앨범중의 하나이다.

 

 그녀는 88년 뉴올리언즈의 음악대사라는 공식 호칭을 받을 정도로(루이 암스트롱 이후 처음 있는 일) 이
앨범은 릴리안 부테를 널리 알린 그녀의 대표작이다.

타이틀곡인 전형적인 재즈풍의 발라드 곡 'Music Is My Life'를 비롯해서 'For All We Know', 'He Touched Me'등

대다수의 수록곡이 뉴올리언즈 재즈의 2박자 리듬을 기본으로 편곡되 있다.

 

특히 앨범의 마지막 곡 'Am I Blue'는 모 CF의 배경 음악으로 쓰이면서 매니아들의 표적이 되었던 곡이며 그녀의

음색이 얼마나 매력적인지를 잘 드러내주고 있다.
