우리나라에서는 <Question> 이라는 발라드 곡만 유일하게 알려져 있는숨은 보석같은 그룹

 Manfred Mann's Earth Band.리더 만프레드 맨은 특이하게 남아공 출신입니다.

비틀즈가 한창 날리던 시절부터 활동하던 인물이죠.

 

신시사이저가 그다지 발전하지 않았던 시절 무그 연주의 일인자로 명성이 자자했었습니다.

60년대초 <Doo Wah Diddy Diddy> 라는 곡으로빌보드 1위까지 했던 아이돌 출신입니다.

프로그레시브와는 거리가 먼들어보면 귀에 익은 경쾌한 록큰롤 음악이죠.

오늘 올리는 곡 <Blinded By The Light> 역시 빌보드 싱글 차트 1위 곡입니다.

우리나라에선 많이 알려지지 않았지만...

미국 국가대표 Rocker 브루스 스프링스틴의 곡을 리메이크한 것입니다.

브루스 스프링스틴이 발표했을 때는 대중들이 몰라 주었던 곡이죠.

당시 무명이었던 스프링스틴은 이 곡의 원작자로 알려지면서 주목을 받기 시작했고급기야는 미국의 국가대표 Rocker가

되죠.

라이브 영상에서 건반을 연주하며 음악을 이끌고 있는난닝구 입은 아저씨가 만프레드 맨입니다.

후반부 건반 애드립 부분에서전세계 어린이들의 피아노 연주 레퍼토리 1번곡<젓가락 행진곡> 이 잠깐 나옵니다

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

남아공의 요하네스버그에서 태어난 키보드 플레이어 맨프레드 맨은

1962년 12월 런던에서 드러머인 마이크 허그(Mike Hugg)와 함께 

당시 영국에서 유행하던 블루스에 기반한 8인조의 맨허그 블루스 브라더스를 결성하였다. 

이후 멤버를 다섯명으로 축소하면서 밴드 이름도
Manfred Mann & The Manfreds 로 바꾸고 활동하였으며
1963년에 HMV Records 계약하면서 밴드 이름을 Manfred Mann 으로 바꾸게 된다.

1963년 그룹 Manfred Mann 은 재즈 취향의 연주곡 Why Should We Not 과 보컬이 삽입된Cock-A-Hoop 두곡을

 싱글 음반으로 발였으나 두곡 모두 차트 진입에는 실패하고만다.

1963년 8월 영국에서 처음으로 탄생한 음악 전문 프로그램 Ready Steady Go! 가 전파를타기 시작하였는데, 

이 프로그램의 주제곡으로 맨프레드 맨의 싱글'5-4-3-2-1' 가 사용되면서 이 곡이 1964년에 영국 차트 5위에 오르는 

히트를 기록하여맨프레드 맨에게 최초의 히트곡을 안겨주게 된다.

상업적인 성공과는 거리가 멀었던 Chapter Three 시절 처럼 맨프레드 맨스 어스 밴드도그 전철을 되풀이 하는 듯 싶었으나 1976년에 발표한 음반 The Roaring Silence 에서

Blinded By The Light 가 빅 히트를 하면서 전성기를맞이하게 된다. 

이때부터 맨프레드 맨은한국에도 알려지기 시작하였는데 1980년대로 접어들면서 

이 음반에 수록되어 있는 발라드 Questions 가 음악 다방 DJ들에 의해 발굴되어 알려지기 시작하면서한국에서 

맨프레드 맨스 어스 밴드를 대표하는 곡으로 엄청난 사랑을 받고 있다.
